What is a Jewellery Appraisal?
A jewellery appraisal or valuation is a report or certificate prepared by a certified and independent jewellery appraiser or gemologist, describing the approximate retail replacement value of a piece of jewellery (with or without gemstones) or precious gemstone. The replacement value is based on current market pricing information, corresponding with standard retail pricing. Appraisals also describe all characteristics and details of the jewellery or precious gemstone.
Why Request an Appraisal?
Having a piece of jewellery or a loose diamond appraised allows for more comprehensive insurance coverage in the event of loss or theft. Appraisals provide security that a piece of jewellery or precious gemstone will be replaced with an equivalent or like item.
In addition to being used in cases of loss or theft, appraisals are very useful for:
- Customs purposes when travelling from one country to another;
- Selling the item appraised;
- Settling estates, inheritances, wills and divorces
