November 2007

For an up-to-the-minute guide on jewellery trends for Autumn/Winter 2007/2008, we’ve put together a short summary to help you get “the look” exactly right.

Colour:
With glamour being the predominant trend in this season’s look, colour is poised to feature in bold, strong tones. Neutral tones take on brushed or metallic finishes to acquire extra polish, with jewel colours in bold brights taking centre stage. Topaz and cobalt blues, soft tourmaline /pinks, bright emerald and peridot greens, warm golden tones of citrine and amber, and black, are the main palettes to emerge.

However, purple is no doubt the ‘in’ shade. From amethyst to lilac to violet to lavender, purple is THE key colour this season and consequently stunning amethyst jewellery will be a big hit.

The Cocktail Ring:
Cocktail rings are all set to make a spectacular statement this season. From classic pave accented cocktail rings to bold faceted stones, the look is oversized and chunky in keeping with emerging jewellery trends.

With the main feature of the cocktail ring being its oversized centre stone, colour is making a strong appearance in the form of gemstones and other semi-precious stones. Whether accented with diamonds for extra flash, or making a bold singular statement with an eye-catching cut, the finish is ultra glamorous, glossy and confident.

A stunning cocktail ring is a key accessory this winter, and the perfect party piece for end-of-year celebrations.

Vintage:
We are seeing strong retro vintage style influences, featuring angular shapes, faceted gems and pearl accents. Bows, streamers and ribbons, whether using fabric embellishment or micro-pave metal and diamond work, add an extra dimension to the vintage look.

Glamour:
In keeping with the resurgent “power dressing” look, glamour is what it’s all about this season, with glamorous jewellery all set to dominate evening wear. Reminiscent of the starlet style of earlier decades, jewellery features loads of pave, bold designs and diamond and pearl accents. The more the sparkle the better, with stars, circles and bows as strong themes.

Heart Jewellery:
The heart – ever-favoured talisman of affection – has been growing in popularity over the past year. Heart pendants and lockets set to become a popular Christmas gift, with heart earrings fast following suit. Pave accents, textured metalwork and long chains are all key factors.

Techellery:
With the demand for accessories increasing every year, we are seeing an exciting emerging trend in innovative “techellery” – technology enabled smart accessories. In other words, jewellery combined with technology. Going, going, gone are the clunky tech items of the past. Swarovski crystal headsets, USB sticks and even cell phones are now highly desirable forms of wearable technology and jeweled accessories in their own right.
