By taking common sense precautions in wearing, storing and cleaning your diamond jewellery you will be able to maintain its beauty and brilliance as on the day that you first received it.

How to wear your jewellery
Despite being the hardest natural substance known to man, diamonds can indeed be damaged. Diamonds can be chipped or scratched if knocked against a hard surface or if rubbed against other diamonds. In addition, diamonds may loose their brilliance through handling.

We suggest some simple precautions:
  • Remove your ring before exposure to chemicals such as household detergents or cleaning solutions;
  • If you wear more then one ring with diamonds then space the rings so that there is no direct contact between the diamonds;
  • Inspect the claws of the ring after sustaining a hard blow or knock;
  • Don’t excessively handle the diamonds in your ring as the natural oil in your hands causes diamonds to cloud and lose their sparkle.
How to store your jewellery
If not being worn, a diamond engagement ring should be wrapped in soft fabric and placed in a padded jewellery bag. Seldom-worn jewellery should be stored in a safe deposit box. Diamond jewelry pieces should never be stored loosely with other pieces of jewellery as they could easily scratch or nick each other, while the gold or platinum settings can be damaged and scratched by other gems.

How to clean your jewellery
Jewellery worn close to the skin will become covered and clogged in oily debris, mainly composed of dead skin cells. Dust and dirt becomes attached to this. Sweat and soap can also cause a grease coating to settle on jewellery pieces. In cleaning jewellery composed of diamonds and gold we suggest the following:
  • Diamonds
    Diamonds should be washed in a hand basin to prevent diamonds loosened during polishing from running down the drain. The most effective method is a solution of water and jewellery cleaning compounds used together with a soft-bristled brush for loosening and removing dirt. The diamond should be wiped dry with a lint-free cloth.

  • Jewellery – The ring mount & other jewellery pieces
    Most gold and platinum jewellery can be cleaned with warm soap water and a used toothbrush. We do not recommend abrasives, as this can cause scratching.

  • Professional Cleaning
    Jewellery that becomes overly dirty can be cleaned in ultrasonic steam cleaning tanks. The cleaning is achieved though a combination of jewellery cleaning compounds and ultrasonic waves which accelerates the process. This process should be enough to bring back the shine to jewellery and sparkle to your diamonds. If the above process is not sufficient and you need professional cleaning, please only take it to a reputable jeweller. The cleaning process may usually involve boiling in sulfuric acid. Professional cleaners should be informed of any serious flaws in the stone such as fractures or cracks, as some cleaning procedures may intensify the flaws.

    It should be noted that the finish unique to platinum will develop a patina over time. A professional jeweler will be able to return the high gloss finish to such a platinum piece.
