When it comes to rings, there is no doubt about it, size matters. Whether you chose to present that ring to your partner as a surprise or not, by following a few simple guidelines we'll help you get the ring size spot-on.
For the full disclosure approach: - Ask her what her finger size is.
- If she doesn't know, with your partner follow these steps:
- Wrap a piece of string or paper around the base of the ring finger. The fit should be snug and should be able to slip over the knuckle of the finger*;
- Mark the string or paper where it overlaps to form a complete circle;
- Measure with a ruler the length of the section of string or paper at the point where it overlaps around the finger;
- Compare the measurement with the chart below to determine the ring size.
*Remember that wider bands should be half to a full size larger then the size measured, and that cold and hot weather will cause fingers to shrink or expand.
For the undercover approach:Any one of the below methods will do if you're keen on keeping things under wraps (Fellas, the engagement ring is traditionally worn on the
left hand on the finger next to the pinky finger so make sure that your covert ring sizing activities are based on the size of this finger).
- Make an impression of her ring, on a bar of soap, clay or play-dough.
- Make a tracing of the inside of the ring on a piece of paper.
- Slide one of her rings onto your finger until it “fits”. Stop where it gets tight and mark that spot on your finger with a pen. Then using the measuring instructions above work out her ring size.
- Take one of her rings to a jeweller to be measured.
With these impressions or tracings most jewellers will be able to provide you with an estimate of the ring size. If the measurement falls between two ring sizes go with the higher measurement.
Diamondcelebrations.com will be able to downsize most rings for a minimal cost without too much difficulty. Please see our ring sizing and resizing policy in our Terms and Conditions of Purchase.
